Miami Shores Septic Tank Cleaning

Septic Tank Services in Miami Shores, FL:

How does Alligator Septic continue to be the leader for septic services in Miami Shores, FL?

We have been working on perfecting our septic cleaning, inspection, and repair process for over 30 years.

Septic tank pumping alone is not usually enough to remove years of sludge build up inside of the tank. At Alligator we recommend pumping and pressure washing to remove any sludge or debris inside the tank. As we are pumping we add high pressure water to breakdown and stir up the sludge and debris so the vacuum can suck it up into the truck.

Benefits of septic tank pumping & cleaning

  1. Extends drain field life - By removing all the sludge build up inside the tank every couple of years the drain field will be draining relatively clear liquid well treated liquid.

  2. Extends tank life - Sludge damages concrete tank bottoms, by thoroughly removing the sludge every couple years damage to tank is mitigated.

Common Septic System Service Questions We Get in Miami Shores, FL

  • Toilets will gurgle or make odd noises when flushed. Sewage may start to build up in the shower or tub. Odors in the house or near septic system area.

  • In Miami Shores, a household of four should have the septic tank pumped every 1.5-2 years. However, the age of the septic system may affect the frequency of pumping. Older septic systems that have not been properly maintained over the years, may need to be cleaned more frequently.

Regardless of the amount of people in the household, the tank should be checked at least every 3 years.

  • Locating a septic tank in Miami Shores is normally quite easy. Our technician’s at Alligator Septic, first use a probe to find a septic tank. The septic tank should be located in a grassy area and should not be covered by any concrete, deck, or pavers, etc. On average, It takes less than 15 minutes to find the tank with a probe. According to Miami-Dade County code requirements the septic tank should be 5ft off of the home and within 8 inches of the surface level.

If the tank cannot be found by probing. We use a camera and digital locator. We are so confident we will locate your septic tank with this service we offer a 100% guarantee.

  • Using advanced equipment, our trained technicians at Alligator Septic can find any septic tank. If a septic technician is unable locate a tank using a probe, we will use a locating and transmitter device. Using access to the mainline for the home, we run the locating device down the pipe and into the septic tank. Another technician carefully follows the device using the transmitter until the locator enters the septic tank. The locator constantly sends a signal back to the transmitter that tells us exactly how deep it is.

At Alligator Septic, we have located tanks in bedrooms, under concrete patios and in pool areas, etc. This may not be ideal, but our team will always find the best possible solution for each of customer’s septic system needs and provide you with all available options.

  • Unfortunately, septic system plans may no longer exist and may be inaccurate. The only plans we can use to verify septic system location(s) are stamped plans by the Miami-Dade County Health Department. Proposed plans are almost always inaccurate and should not be used to locate a septic tank.

  • Great Question! Most people who either are new to owning a home on septic or from other parts of the United States, do not understand why their home’s septic system is not accessible. In the past, most septic tanks were only accessible through the underground concrete slab cover. These concrete slab covers weigh between two to three hundred pounds. For the average, inexperienced, individual it is nearly impossible and unsafe to open these covers. Older septic tanks were not required to be built with any easy access. When opening an older concrete slab cover, people can be hurt, the access can be damaged, and harmful sand & debris can enter the septic system. Fortunately, Alligator Septic can now update your septic tank with an easy access, long lasting, steel manhole cover.

  • A steel manhole frame & cover is the quickest, fastest, and longest lasting available access to a septic tank. It is made of poured steel and is far more durable than plastic or polyurethane lids in comparison. Manholes can be opened by using a manhole hook that can be found at your local hardware store and/or at online retailers, such as Amazon. The manhole cover can simply be removed by the use of two shovels between the ring and steel manhole cover.

Alligator Septic has installed more steel manholes than any septic company in all of South Florida. With more than 10,000 manholes installed in the last decade, we are the steel manhole installation experts of Palm Beach, Broward & Dade Counties. Our septic company believes so highly in the steel manholes we install that we provide a lifetime warranty.

Septic Tank Pumping & Cleaning Miami Shores

For nearly 30 years, A-Alligator, has maintained septic tank systems in Miami Shores. Septic systems in Miami Shores are unique to others due to the proximity to the waterfront. Due to the high water table, homes in the area may require complex systems that require a lift Station. These systems can be problematic if not maintained frequently. Septic systems with a lift Station should be maintained yearly. We recommend regular, gravity flow systems to be cleaned out every 1.5-2 years.

The life of a septic system is solely based off of frequent & proper service. The owner’s of A-Alligator’s personal home has a septic tank & lift Station. Their lift station pump lasted from install in November of 2004 to August of 2018. Nearly 14 years of a functional pump is unheard of. This was solely based on the maintenance of the system. The septic tank & lift station was pumped and pressure washed every year removing every bit of waste from the tank.

In terms of maintenance, your septic tank and drainfield system is just like the car you drive. If you don’t change the oil in your vehicle, the engine will eventually fail.  If you don’t completely clean out your septic tank the sludge accumulating on the bottom of the tank will deteriorate the tank and clog your drainfield overtime. Just as the vehicle engine will fail from lack of maintenance so will the septic system. Both are extremely costly repairs that are avoidable.

Understandably, the septic system is out of mind for most homeowners. Day to day responsibilities leave us with little time to focus on maintaining our septic systems. Leave it to our team at A-Alligator to schedule your next service years in advanced. This simple effort will save you time, money and leave you with reassurance as a homeowner.

How Does My Septic System Function In Miami Shores

The septic system consists of 2 main parts; The first part is the septic tank. The tank traps solid waste from the bathrooms, laundry, and kitchen. The solid waste is separated into a layer of scum that floats and a sludge that falls to the bottom of the tank. Alligator septic can pump the solid waste from the tank every 1.5 to 2 years in order ensure to proper function.

The second part of the system is the drainfield. This normally consist of an absorption area which drains the septic tank effluent (water) into the ground. Septic tank cleaning will prolong the life of the drainfield. Since the water table in Miami Shores can be very high, some septic systems need a lift station between the tank and drainfield. This pump lifts the septic tank effluent to a drainfield at a level higher than the seasonal high water table. A system with a lift station should also have an audio/visual alarm to let the homeowner know when a problem occurs. The lift station tank should be pumped clean with regular septic tank service.

What are the components of a septic tank?

Most septic tanks have an inlet and outlet cover. The outlet cover is located over a solids deflection device also known as an outlet baffle. This baffle protects the drainfield from any solid waste exiting the tank. In Miami Shores, these baffles are often found to be deteriorated over due to the age of the systems. In modern tanks (anything built after 1994) a filter should be installed in the outlet baffle to protect small particles in the tank effluent escaping into the drainfield. Any solids in the drainfield will cause premature failure.

Alligator Septic can install a proper septic tank filter at the time of service. A steel manhole cover over the outlet lid will provide easy access for cleaning the outlet filter.
